Peak Design Mobile is a system of cases and mounts that connect via the SlimLink lock – a combination of magnets and a mechanical catch. A phone in a SlimLink case clicks into a bike, car or tripod mount in one move and is released with a button. The cases are also MagSafe compatible.
What SlimLink is and why it matters
SlimLink is the rounded-square lock on the back of the case. Strong magnets pull the phone in and a ceramic ring engages the mount's catch. Peak Design distinguishes two types of connection:
- Locking (mechanical) – bike and motorcycle mounts, the Creator Kit. The phone locks in and is released by pressing a button. They require a SlimLink case or the Universal Adapter.
- Magnetic – car mounts, the wireless charging stand, Mobile Tripod, wallets. They hold by magnets and work with SlimLink as well as MagSafe phones and cases.
Cases with and without SlimLink
Starting with the iPhone 18 and Google Pixel 11 cases, Peak Design offers two lines for the first time:
| Everyday Case with SlimLink | Everyday Case without SlimLink | |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | magnets + mechanical lock | magnets only (MagSafe) |
| Bike and motorcycle mounts | yes, locking | does not lock; not recommended by the maker for vibration and bumps |
| Car mount, stand, wallet | yes | yes (magnetic accessories) |
| MagSafe chargers | yes | yes |
| Loop version | yes | yes |
| Best for | bike, motorcycle, car, off-road | everyday carry, MagSafe accessories |
Everyday Cases for older models (iPhone 17 and earlier, Pixel 10 and earlier) and the cases for Samsung Galaxy have SlimLink built in. According to the manufacturer, a SlimLink case also makes Samsung and Pixel phones work with MagSafe chargers and accessories.
Case types
- Everyday Case – a slim case (2.4 mm rear wall, around 40 g), rubberised bumper, aluminium buttons, 2 m drop protection. Shell in Versa Shell nylon canvas, Clarino vegan leather or, for iPhone 18, also ECCO full-grain leather.
- Everyday Loop Case – the same with a fold-out finger loop that is held flat by a magnet when not in use.
- GNAR Case – a tougher case with a thicker bumper, raised camera bezel and a USB-C port plug. The maker states 4.5 m drop protection. Aimed at motorcyclists, cyclists and outdoor use.
Cases are in the Phone cases collection.
If there is no Peak Design case for your phone
The Universal Adapter is a thin SlimLink plate (5.6 × 5.6 × 0.26 cm, 13 g) that you stick onto the back of your own case with 3M VHB adhesive. According to the manufacturer:
- it adheres to smooth, hard, non-porous surfaces (hard plastic, metal) and is not recommended for silicone or leather;
- do not stick it directly onto the phone;
- wireless charging may not work optimally with it;
- its magnets may interfere with a stylus (e.g. Samsung S Pen); it is not designed for tablets or folding phones.
Car mounts
| Mount | Attachment | Charging | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car Mount (VHB) | 3M VHB adhesive pad on the dashboard | optional Qi2 up to 15 W | aluminium ball head, second pad included |
| Car Vent Mount | on the vent blade, 2 points of contact | optional Qi2 up to 15 W | 360° swivel arm; does not fit every vent type |
Car mounts hold the phone in portrait or landscape. The adhesive version works best on a flat, hard, smooth surface. More in the For the car collection.
Bike and scooter mounts
- Out Front Bike Mount V2 – phone in front of the handlebars, with collars for 22.2, 25.4, 31.8 and 35 mm diameters. Not compatible with tapered or non-round bars. It can be flipped to film your ride, and a mount for a light or action camera is included.
- Universal Bar Mount – a silicone band for the handlebars, stem or frame of a bike or scooter; the head clicks into 32 positions, so you can level the phone even on curved bars.
Motorcycle mounts
Peak Design makes stem mounts (for clip-on bars), mirror mounts, brake/clutch reservoir mounts and adapters for 1" and 20 mm ball mounts, all also available with Qi2 charging. The mounts have silicone vibration dampers. In 2021 Apple warned that vibrations from high-power motorcycle engines can damage iPhone camera stabilisation (MacRumors), so a damper makes sense. The range is in the For the motorcycle collection.
Tripod, stand and other accessories
- Mobile Tripod – a pocket aluminium tripod (76 g, about 0.5 cm thick) with a mini ball head; it also works as a kickstand.
- Creator Kit – a locking mount with plates for GoPro-style mounts and 1/4"-20 threads, so you can put your phone on a regular tripod or a Capture clip.
- Wireless Charging Stand – a folding aluminium desk charging stand; requires a 20 W USB-C power adapter.
- Mobile Wallet (Slim and Stand) – a magnetic wallet for the back of your phone holding up to 7 cards; the Stand version adds an adjustable kickstand.
Neck and crossbody straps and other accessories are in the Mobile accessories collection.
How to build your setup
- Choose a case for your phone. If you ride a bike or motorcycle, go for the SlimLink or GNAR version.
- Add a mount for your use – car, bike, motorcycle, desk.
- Consider charging. Qi2 versions make most sense in the car and on longer rides.
Frequently asked questions
Does Peak Design Mobile work without a Peak Design case?
Yes, in two ways. You can stick a Universal Adapter with SlimLink onto the back of a regular hard case. A MagSafe phone (or a phone in a MagSafe case) attaches to magnetic accessories such as car mounts, stands or wallets even without an adapter – but the mechanical lock in bike and motorcycle mounts requires SlimLink.
What is the difference between the Everyday Case with and without SlimLink?
The SlimLink case has a lock on the back (the 'squircle') that mechanically clicks into Peak Design mounts, suitable for bikes, motorcycles and off-road use. The case without SlimLink is magnetic only (MagSafe), with a slightly cleaner look and lower price, but it does not lock into locking mounts.
Can I charge my phone wirelessly in a Peak Design case?
Yes, Peak Design cases support wireless charging including MagSafe chargers. The manufacturer notes, however, that compatibility with all third-party chargers (even Qi-certified ones) is not guaranteed. With the adhesive Universal Adapter, charging may not work or may be slower.
Is a Peak Design mount safe for an iPhone camera on a motorcycle?
Peak Design motorcycle mounts have silicone vibration dampers. In 2021 Apple warned that strong vibrations from high-power motorcycle engines can damage the iPhone camera's optical image stabilisation and advised against rigidly mounting the phone on such bikes. Choose a mount with a damper for motorcycles; the decision is yours.
How do I remove a stuck-on Universal Adapter or car mount?
The manufacturer recommends sliding dental floss between the adhesive pad and the surface and breaking the bond with a sawing motion. Residue can usually be rolled off with a finger or removed with painter's tape. The adhesive generally can't be reused; the VHB car mount includes a second pad.
